World's Biggest IPv6: Built by China
BEIJING, Apr 16, 2009 -- China has built up the biggest next-generation Internet layer protocol Internet Protocol Version 6 (Ipv6) in the world, said Hu Qiheng, head for the Internet Society of China (ISC), on April 15, 2009.
As its next step, the country will strengthen R&D on Ipv6 terminals and platforms in a bid to promote the trial commercial operation of the next-generation protocol, according to Mr. Hu. China sets an aim to bring the number of Ipv6 users to more than 500,000 for trial commercial operation before the end of 2010.
The country, which has authorized three telecom operators to run 3G business nationwide, is expected to see demand for Internet protocol (IP) increase by leaps and bounds in the wake of the mobile Internet era, pointed out market observers.
Previously, the Chinese government unveiled its plan to include the next-generation Internet layer protocol construction in its electronics and information industry stimulus package.
