HP-UX 11i and Improved Versions of HP Serviceguard was introduced
The Hewlett-Packard Development Company (HP) has introduced improved versions of its HP Serviceguard Solutions software and HP-UX 11i Operating System (OS) to optimize 24 x 365 server performance and availability for clientele that require non-stop usage.
HP Serviceguard A.11.19 permits live reconfiguration, background addition and deletion of digital information, and modular on line maintenance so that down time is reduced to zero. It also has built in work flow distribution and prioritization to accommodate an increased workload, which could be either more business volume or preventing overload after possible fail over, without affecting delivery speed.
The software rapidly restores operational functionality 83 percent better than its previous release in the rare event of communications disconnect and theoretically (as demonstrated by HP in its labs) reduces system handling time and resources and associated costs by 25 percent.
It also guarantees data security and meets all the mandatory U.S. and Japanese government regulations for Internet Protocol version 6 (Iv6) that accommodates a significantly larger identification space than IPv4, and hybrid IPv4 and IPv6 environments.
The HP-UX 11i v3 Update 4 OS has been optimized for management and automation performance to improve the cost reduction effort of the HP BladeSystem solution package by reducing installation, hand over and upgrade time from at least 48 hours to a few hours for high-bandwidth replicated servers via the internet.
"This new version of HP-UX will enable customers to better handle orders for new business and reduce the costs of their technology infrastructures" said BrianCox, director, Software Planning and Marketing, Business Critical Systems, HP.
Cox added that HP’s advantage is its twenty five year sustained and growing longevity in the UNIX development and market space.
It reduces power associated costs by constantly and intelligently altering the processor power requirements depending on the volume of traffic, and has increased security levels with HP-UX Bastille that automatically or remotely locks down systems and has a “revert” function that restore settings to pre-lock down status.
"We have significantly improved the performance of our data center while reducing costs by consolidating four standalone servers with a mixed operating environment to just two HP blades with a single operating environment," said Jim Gross, director of IT Operations, AAR Corporation. "Standardizing on HP-UX 11i v3 across our environment has made system administration simple and cost-effective, while HP Integrity blades provide the form factor needed to consolidate."
AAR is a 50 year old, $ 1.384 billion product and service provider to the aerospace and defense industries, and specializes in aviation supply chain, maintenance, repair and overhaul. It is well known for refurbishing and re-selling used aircrafts.
HP-UX 11i and HP Integrity servers yield the best results when used in combination with Intel and Itanium processors.
"HP's investment in UNIX-level data and application redundancy, online mobility and system failover with HP-UX 11i v3, combined with Intel's investment in processor-level RAS features, make HP Integrity servers running HP-UX 11i extremely flexible and reliable for mission-critical workloads," said Rory McInerney, vice president, Digital Enterprise Group, and director, Enterprise Microprocessor Group, Intel. "Our joint work pays real dividends for our customers."
